Do you ever feel like you just need a little something extra to jazz up an outfit or add a funky finishing touch? Maybe it’s the change in the season, but I think at this time of year we all feel like we need to revamp our wardrobes a little, and with Christmas and New Year 2015 around the corner the purse strings are pretty tight. So a personal shopping spree is most definitely not on the cards. But don’t worry, there are many ways to restyle an old outfit and with a few chosen accessories your old little black dress or favourite cotton jumper can soon look like a purchase from the autumn winter collection 2014.

So with a little imagination, a dose of creativity and a root through the back of your accessory cupboard there is a solution. Yes, your old scarves are the secret ingredient! We all know that they are great versatile accessories and that there are many ways to wear a scarf. But have you ever considered that your old silk or cotton scarf could soon be joining your accessories collection as a stylish chunky necklace?

Not really? Ah well, read on then!

This Christmas, spice up your wardrobe and turn your brightest scarf into a necklace. Try your hand at this cool and easy scarf tying DIY technique!
Give a new lease of life to your old scarf

First you might need to pop to your local craft store and pick up some funky beads and some clear plastic thread (the type used by fisherman is perfect).

And then …..

1. Tie a few loose knots with equal spacing the full length of the scarf, starting with one in the middle and working your way outwards to the ends.

2. Take the clear thread and feed it through the knot in the middle.

3. Thread a bead or how ever many you want onto each side of the middle knot and continue doing this until you reach the last knot and the spacing in-between is filled with beads.

4. Once all the beads are threaded, tighten up each knot adding extra knots at the ends of the scarf if needed.

5. Secure the thread by feeding it through the last knot a few times and tying it tightly.

And da daaaaaa you now have your very own scarf necklace.

So next time you need a new necklace or find an old scarf that hasn’t been used for years, you could soon be fashioning a unique necklace designed and handmade by YOU.

Good Luck!
