If you long for the smell of paper and are a true blue book lover , the next time you find yourself in the vicinity of City Hall MRT or the Central Library on Victoria street in Singapore, take some time out to walk over to the Bras Basah complex on Bain Street. Nestled in the midst of the hullabaloo of the rich art and culture scene in Singapore, the mall houses stationary shops, art and craft supply shops, printing services…and above all book stores.
The book stores in the complex carry new and second hand text books, exam sample papers, fiction and non- fiction books of various genres for all age groups. While the new books collection is very good, the star attraction at the Bras Basah complex for book lovers is beyond doubt the used books collection.The used book stores which caught our attention were Book Point on level three and Evernew Book Store on the street level. For the ‘serious’ collectors of comics Book point will be nothing short of a delight with its enviable collection of comic books. As for Evernew Book Store, the range of books is varied and well organised. Both stores buy used books too, so if you have any in good condition head over there to get them assessed and sell!
The best part: You can browse as long as you can and you will most likely find a something of interest at good bargain prices.If you are lucky, you may find some out-of-print jewels too!
