As a social enterprise registered with raiSE, Secondsguru loves to work with the community and for the community to achieve its mission of environmental education. We have collaborated with several organisations including National Environment Agency (NEA), Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE), National Youth Council (NYC) and National Library Board (NLB) to amplify pro-environmental messages and outcomes throughout Singapore.
Some of our recurring projects include:
- Zero Waste Bootcamps for youth
- Beach cleanups
- Book swaps
- Educational talks and workshops
- Virtual talks and sharing sessions for the larger community
Always wanted to give back to the environment but don’t know where to start? Join us for our next community event by following us on Facebook.
Secondsguru also conducts bespoke corporate workshops and runs a green living guide.
Zero Waste Bootcamps
The Zero Waste Bootcamp (ZWB) is a 12-16 week programme where youth (18-35 years old) team up, create and execute sustainability projects. The ZWB equips youth with skills and knowledge to craft meaningful projects with sustainable impacts, giving them the opportunity to gain mentorship in their engagement with Secondguru’s founders as well as partner not-for-profit organisations.
Since 2019, we have conducted 9 bootcamps. In all, over 210 participants enrolled in the past 9 bootcamps, joining/ organising 85+ community events, and forging 120+ collaborations with a range of partners, sparking a cascading impact as they generated nearly 190K touch points through online and in-person outreach. Currently powered by the National Youth Council (NYC), the bootcamps are held biannually.
Write to us at bootcamp@secondgsuru.com if you have any questions.
Beach Cleanups
Secondsguru organises coastal clean-ups at our recreational beaches across Singapore, engaging the community to clean up our common spaces. Beaches that our eco-community has cleared include Changi beach, Coney island, East Coast Park and more! We are a member of R.I.S.E. insert link and support the movement towards a #CleanAndGreenSingapore.
Book Swaps
The Secondsguru bookswap has been a fixture at Singapore’s much-loved eco festivals – Earthfest and Swapathon. It allows community members to recycle their reading by swapping used books with others! Thousands of books have found new homes as a result of this initiative!
Educational Booths at Community Events
As a social enterprise, Secondsguru conducts community educational events with a view to create interactive education in public spaces. These include face-to-face and yes, virtual sessions too! Examples include creating pledge stations at Marina Barrage alongside the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE), to a webinar for the People’s Association’s PAssion WaVe, to interactive games on events for National Environment Agency (NEA). Our Zero Waste Bootcamp teams have also joined us at a few such events to share their missive on how to lead lower waste lifestyles in the community.
