Every once in a while our readers come up with some fantastic DIY projects involving upcycling and reusing their old wares. One such reader that Secondsguru admires and who is also a bonafide green warrior, is Shivani Malhotra. Shivani genuinely walks the ‘green talk’ in her day-to-day life. Here is her step-by-step guide on how to convert a drab pin board into an eye-catching one using materials mainly found around the house!
My daughter needed a pin up board for her study and we picked up a basic one. It looked drab and so we decided to give it our original touch to add the required zing! As always, I dug through my collection of items which could be used to make the transformation, rather than buying anything new! I found a gorgeous multi-coloured bag which seemed perfect for the task at hand and got started.
Items needed:
Pin up cork board
Fabric from an old bag- Find an old cloth bag that has vibrant fabric.
Metallic push pins
Rope
Method:
1) Cut the cloth bag and separate out the pieces as per your desired design.
2)Place cloth over the board and pin edges on the reverse side
3) Cut one of the bag holding strips into two and pin vertically next to each other to insert envelopes, invites etc
4) Place the other bag holding strip diagonally across the board and add rope string loops at regular distances with wooden clips hanging from them.
Voila! A gorgeous pin up board is ready! A lovely Sunday morning spent over upcycling, bonding together and achieving a personalized gorgeous board!
