Green Living is back with its eco-lifestyle event for the second year running. The exhibition brings together a diverse range of consumer and business brands over Sep 9-11 at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. The aim is to promote sustainable living by bringing consumers in contact with responsible brands and showcasing best practices.
However, sustainability is not just about buying sustainable products. So we at Secondsguru love that in addition to the pop-up market, there are many more opportunities for people to interact with sustainable brands and get introduced to an eco-lifestyle. Here is our line up of not-to-be-missed activities when you visit Green Living.
Our favorite picks at Green Living 2016
Pop-Up Market
Sep 9-11
There will, of course, be a marketplace where you can navigate through a variety of eco-friendly products and services. We had a sneak peak at the brands, and found an attractive mix of products we already love (!) and products we are impatient to meet. From ETL No.9 [a fruit and veggie cleaner we’ve reviewed] to Buds Organics [natural and organic toiletries] to Coriandoli’s soy candles… there’s a lot for the whole family to get lost in! Parents will be especially delighted with the quality of ingredients and range of products.
World Wildlife Federation (WWF) Singapore
Sep 9-11
Virtual reality meets Jungle Book at this captivating offering at the WWF-Singapore booth. Try on Samsung Gear VR sets to experience the life of a tiger; hopefully you will be moved enough to admire – and support – the last remaining 3890 tigers. Special cuddly toy tigers and adoption gift packs are up for the taking if you support WWF at the event venue.
Goodbye Eczema
11 Sep, Sunday – 1 PM
Eczema is a battle that 1 in 5 fights against our skin in Singapore. Many of us (me and my kids included!) end up using steroids as a last but unavoidable resort… and wish we didn’t have to. Attend this seminar conducted by Soap Haven to explore natural remedies for curing, or at least managing, eczema in a more holistic way.
The 60-90 minute session includes Q&A. Register here for free.
Chemical-free Home
11 Sep, Sunday – 3:30 PM
It’s hard to run a household without resorting to chemicals. But is it possible to poison germs, insects and pests without harming ourselves in the process? Can you trust labels to give you full information on toxicity? If these are questions you’d like answers – and solutions – to, head to this seminar conducted by Precious Oilers. You will learn how to read the ingredient labels on your bottles and which toxic chemicals to avoid like the Plague.
The 60-90 minute session includes Q&A. Register here for free.
Organic home gardening
11 Sep, Sunday – 3:30 PM
Green fingers unite, you have nothing to lose but your kitchen scraps! Biomax is leading a seminar to help you convert an inorganic home garden to an organic haven. If you have a normal garden, it is a great opportunity to learn the dos and donts of migrating from one farming process to another.
The 60-90 minute session includes Q&A. Register here for free.
9 Sep, Friday – 5 PM | 10 Sep, Saturday – 5:30 PM | 11 Sep, Sunday – 1 PM
What’s not to love about these miniatures gardens in a bottle! High on style and low on maintenance, terrariums are a lovely way to bring nature to your desktop. But don’t head to a shop just yet – instead sit with the people from Ecoponics to create your own personal jar, and take it home!
The 30 minute interactive workshop is priced at $30 per participant, $55 for two participants (payment to be made onsite). Register here.
Simplify natural skincare
9 Sep, Friday – 1 PM
Militza Maury of the Little Green Dot is a significant voice in the eco-blogger community of Singapore. Get a front row seat to her philosophy – and skincare regimen – in this workshop. Participants will be guided to create a natural product for their personal use. They will also take home the book “SIMPLIFY Skin: Seasons”, a step-by-step guide to making 3 brand-new luxury skincare products.
The 45 minute interactive workshop is priced at $30 per participant (payment to be made onsite). Register here.
Handcraft soy candles
9 Sep, Friday – 5:30 PM
Unlike petroleum-based paraffin wax, soy wax is plant-based, non-toxic and naturally biodegradable – so I hope you have made the switch already! If you are looking to experience the medium first-hand, this workshop is perfect for beginners to soy and/or candlemaking. Led by Coriandoli, participants will learn the basics of handcrafting candles – from measurement and pouring to adding aromas. In the end, they get their own personalized candles, fragrant with mix of aromatherapy and natural energies.
The 30 minute interactive workshop is free. Open to people aged 18 and above. Register here.
Create beauty oils
10 Sep, Saturday – 3 PM
Create your own facial oil under the tutelage of Balm Kitchen to literally create skin food! Along the way, you will learn to blend botanical oils and essential oils, the art/science behind it, and hopefully leave with a bottle that you can re-create on your own again.
The 30 minute interactive workshop is free. Open to people aged 18 and above. Register here.
