And the answer is (drumroooollllll!) – computer chips!
Every now and then, someone recycles electronic waste into a creative work of art – a bench, a chair, or as Urban Raven in the poster above, even jewelry! At Secondsguru, we love to see the transformation of e-waste, this recycling of potential toxins into objects of desire.
Unfortunately, not all of us have the time or creativity to re-purpose our e-waste. In fact, according to the National Environment Agency, Singapore’s e-waste (both household and industrial) adds up to 60,000 tonnes every year which is equivalent to the weight of 160 Boeing 747 jets! Yep, we are talking rejected (and dejected) mobile phones, old printers, old laptops, desktops (yes they do still exist), printer cartridges even!
If you’ve got an old cell phone or any gadget collecting dust in a drawer which needs to be disposed of, the trash can or rubbish chute is not the right place for it. Go ahead and do your bit to support e-waste recycling by finding and visiting your nearest recycling center here.
